Ian Villafana: News

The Cutting Edge Listening Room - June 22, 2015

NEWS FROM THE LISTENING ROOM

Cutting Edge CE Listening Room presents the island Jazz Vibes of IAN VILLAFANA & DEX DALEY as they present jazz from the Caribbean. They will share the evening with the beautiful voice of MS. NELL SIMMONS.

Before migrating to the US, Trinidad raised Ian Villafana lived in St Croix, Virgin Islands, playing with Jimmy Hamilton of Duke Ellington fame. There he met jazz guitarist, Ed Cherry and Dizzy Gillespie. It was Ed Cherry, who pointed Ian in the right direction that led him to New Orleans.
With the release of his album entitled 'Epiphany' - Ian is now embarking on the next phase of his musical career, touring as a soloist as well as performing with fellow artists all over the country.
Dex Daley’s musical sojourn began as a child in suburban Kingston, Jamaica, where he studied classical piano. Dex became a part of the evolution of the fledgling Rhythms of Reggae music. By age fifteen he was playing keyboards and singing in local Bands in Kingston, and had the opportunity at age seventeen to perform in bands for then rising Reggae Star Bob Marley and the Wailers.
The road to New Orleans, where Dex now resides has been colored with decades of experience. The New Orleans music community warmly welcomed Dex's fusion of the Caribbean Steel Drum sound with the traditional New Orleans Jazz and blues style.
Nell Simmons has a beautiful voice. Music has been her lifetime companion, from touching souls with her soaring vocals in the church to performing throughout New Orleans. Audiences have often been attracted to the energy that exudes from her singing style. Nell Simmons is preparing an EP of her new material.

 Cutting Edge Listening Room

Introduced with the support of Little Gem Saloon, a restaurant/music venue, named for the 1900s Jazz Age venue that was once housed in the same building. Once an area of Downtown New Orleans where merchants, musicians and raconteurs mingled on the streets of New Orleans original Jazz District. Venues like the 1900s Little Gem Saloon are where Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Buddy Bolden and many great originators began this great innovated music called: Jazz.
Cutting Edge seeks to pay homage to the past by simply presenting artists in their natural state of creativity.

Join us at Little Gem Saloon, 445 S Rampart St @ Poydras, Wednesday, June 24, 7:00 - 9:00 PM for a session of  the music of some of today’s most important voices.

Guitar Player Magazine Ad - September 1, 2010

The September issue of the Guitar Player magazine (page 128), published the Boulder Creek Music ad with my photo and Solitaire guitar. I endorse Boulder Creek guitars, with their exclusive Suspended Bracing System. When the “SBS” bracing system is incorporated with the new Boulder Creek “Solitaire” design, the sustain and tone quality are even more prevalent. By not cutting a large hole in the front soundboard of the guitar, the soundboard area is increased.
